My current girl hates that I stay in touch with my ex. It is not like I talk to her every day, but we share emails a couple times a month and I always like to here from her kids (2). Bottom line is that I would never go back there, but it is a part of who I am and I feel like it should be no big deal. She disagrees and is constantly in my face about it. I don't think she is jealous, just untrusting. So what do I do? Do I turn away from something that matters to me to make her happy or do I just tell her to get over herself and be true to me?

No contact is the only way to go. There is not friendship. Get over it and go on with it.
Is a stupid friendship with an ex (can women and men really be friends?!) more important than this relationship. I think your question reveals more about the state of your current thing than the value of an old "friend?' Be honest.
